Gastown Vancouver, British Columbia Canada Founded in 1867, Gastown is the original settlement that became the core of Vancouver, British Columbia. It was named for "Gassy" Jack Deighton, a steamboat captain from Yorkshire, England, who settled and opened the area's first saloon.
