Vancouver, British Columbia
Founded in 1867, Gastown is the original settlement that became the core of Vancouver, British Columbia. It was named for "Gassy" Jack Deighton, a steamboat captain from Yorkshire, England, who settled and opened the area's first saloon. As the area grew it became the center for seamen, fishermen, railway workers and loggers.
