Wat Phra Si Sanphet Ayutthaya, Thailand My gracious host and friend, Dit, sits on the right while taking a picture.
Wat Phra Si Sanphet Ayutthaya, Thailand Three large chedies house the ashes of ancient kings. Curiously, one can climb freely amongst the ruins despite their fragile condition. I stood on the steps of the west chedi to photograph the middle chedi, which is a mirror image. Thousands of tourist descend upon this popular attraction every year. Someday (sooner than later I hope) the Thai government will rope off these areas prevent further erosion and preserve these beautiful relics. Then they can be observed only from a distance, and this photo will be something very special.
Wat Phra Si Sanphet Ayutthaya, Thailand Ayutthaya was invaded by the Burmese in 1767. The Burmese sacked and burned everything in sight. Chedis were completely destroyed and Buddha images were beheaded and burned. You can still see the charring on these figures.
